Baby Bath Safety

Babylist

While bathtime should be fun and soothing for your baby, safety comes first. Choosing the right bathtub is an important first step in providing a safe environment, and it’s best to use one that’s specially designed for infants. "It can be hard to keep an infant properly positioned in an adult bathtub, and devices [like infant bath seats] designed to hold them upright or position them in full-size tubs run the risk of tipping over,” said Chris Klunk, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas. Setting the right water temperature is also key. "The goal here is water that is warm to the touch," said Dr. Klunk. "Babies don't have the best ability to maintain their temperature and tend to get cold and hot easily," he added. Dr. Klunk recommended aiming for water that's close to body temperature—around 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
