Baby gas is a common cause of fussiness. "As a whole, [baby gas is] normal, though it can certainly be distressing for parents when they see their infants squirming in discomfort," said Jenelle Ferry, M.D., neonatologist and director of feeding, nutrition, and infant development at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida. There are several options for treating baby gas, from over-the-counter medicine to preventing gas buildup. Incorporating some breaks into your usual feeding time is a good preventative method. "This helps to get the gas out of the stomach, before it has a chance to make it down to the intestines and cause discomfort," said Dr. Ferry.
