Milk Leakage During Pregnancy

Experiencing leaking breasts during pregnancy can be alarming, but rest assured this is simply your body making baby’s first milk as it prepares for breastfeeding. Leaking “may be noticed when the breast is stimulated with touch, during intercourse or a hot shower,” said Tina Hendrick, M.D., a board-certified OBGYN and medical director at OB Hospitalists of Kentucky, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. When it comes to how much milk you’ll leak, if any, you can anticipate minimal amounts. “This could total about a teaspoon or so throughout an entire day,” said Dr. Hendrick. It can also appear in the form of dried-up milk around your nipples.
