A mother of five in New York is alerting parents to the dangers of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) after a recent outbreak infected three of her daughters and led to hospitalization for one of them. RSV, flu and other respiratory illnesses are spreading according to Kristina Deeter, M.D., specialty medical officer for pediatric critical care at Pediatrix® Medical Group, particularly in southern states. Other "common respiratory viruses" that typically occur during winter are "players" as well, including rhinovirus, adenovirus and human metapneumovirus, said Dr. Deeter.
