Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) commonly affects young children and is very contagious. The virus typically causes cold-like symptoms, but some are more at risk for severe illness. There are several ways to help prevent RSV, including staying home when you or your child is sick. “RSV is one of the more contagious infections, and typically everyone in a household gets it if one of the family members has it,” said Zachary Hoy, M.D., a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Pediatrix® Centennial Hospitalist of Nashville. Limiting your exposure to others when someone in your household is sick is an important method of prevention.
