Moms on TikTok are sharing their experience with the sunset scaries, the time of day when new parents begin to feel a sense of doom. You’re often exhausted at the end of the day and preparing for a long night ahead. “It’s also harder with social media,” said Tina Hendrick, M.D., an OBGYN and medical director at OB Hospitalists of Kentucky, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “It’s difficult not to compare to other new moms' posts,” she said. “And so often, only the happy times are documented, and it makes you feel like a failure.” Knowing you’re not alone can provide some comfort. “It helps to communicate all of these thoughts to a partner or other trusted person,” advised Dr. Hendrick, adding that for her, allowing a partner to take on a night of feedings to allow for a full night’s sleep at least once a week was super helpful.
