Abbot Laboratories recalled a small percentage of popular formulas and Pedialyte products due to bottle deficiencies. Unlike the contaminated baby formulas pulled from the shelves earlier this year, the Abbot product recall results from bottles that weren’t properly sealed. The recall adds to the formula shortage from which the industry has struggled to recover. “The baby formula shortage was a perfect storm,” said Jenelle Ferry, M.D., neonatologist and director of feeding, nutrition and infant development at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida. “You had a combination of COVID pandemic restrictions, supply chain issues and now you’re involving a situation with a company [Abbott Nutrition] that is a major manufacturer of formula products.”
