Back to School Brain Prep

As kids transition from relaxed summer schedules to more structured back to school regimens, there are activities parents can do to help prep their brains and set them up for success. Working on engaging the frontal lobe of the brain is especially helpful for children with brain differences to aid in problem solving, executive function, paying attention and completing things. "People who have ADHD have a relative delay in the frontal lobe," said Michael Reardon, pediatric neurologist at Pediatrix® Child Neurology Consultants of Austin. This can present as attention difficulties and impulse control. Puzzles, board games, reading a book — anything mentally engaging – are all beneficial.
