Sore breasts are a common symptom of pregnancy that often starts very early on. “This is due to a surge in pregnancy hormones and increased blood flow to the breasts that stimulate the breast tissue,” said Amy Wetter, M.D., an OBGYN at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. According to Dr. Wetter, it’s not uncommon for breasts to be sore during the entire first trimester, though this can vary widely from person to person. Some moms-to-be will experience fluctuating breast tenderness or none at all. “Absent or decreased breast tenderness isn’t usually a cause for concern. It can be normal, as hormones fluctuate during pregnancy,” explained Dr. Wetter.
