Duration for Safe Breast Milk Storage at Room Temperature

Whether it’s your first or fourth time nursing, parents often have questions, such as how to properly store breast milk or if it’s safe for a baby to consume from a previously used bottle. Among the many inquiries, a common one is how long breast milk can stay out at room temperature, especially since temperature variations can affect breast milk. Therefore, parents should consider the location before leaving it out. “Be careful not to store room temperature breast milk next to a window that may allow sunlight to create a warmer environment,” said Jenelle Ferry, M.D., a neonatologist and director of feeding, nutrition and infant development at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida.
