How To Know When You’re Most Fertile

Whether you’re trying to conceive or trying to prevent pregnancy, understanding a few fertility basics is key according to Jill Purdie, M.D., a board-certified OBGYN and medical director at Pediatrix Medical Group. "A woman is the most fertile at the time of ovulation," said Dr. Purdie. "Ovulation is when the egg is released from the ovary. For the majority of women, ovulation will occur about 14 days before the menstrual period begins." Dr. Purdie added that the timing of ovulation depends on the length of the menstrual cycle. "Women can typically get pregnant about three to four days prior to ovulation and one to two days after ovulation," she said.
