Sunglasses provide important protection for infants as their eyes are more susceptible to UV damage than adults. It's especially important for children to wear sunglasses if they have light-colored eyes, said Vy Mai, O.D., optometrist at Pediatrix® Eye Care in Seattle, Washington, because lighter eyes are more susceptible to UV damage. When shopping for sunglasses, consider comfort. According to Dr. Mai, a strap can be helpful, especially for particularly active toddlers, but caution should be used as a band or a cord could also pose a choking risk for infants and toddlers.
