Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a serious illness that is particularly dangerous in infants and young children. One surprising fact about RSV is that it is hard to tell the difference between the virus and a cold at first. According to Kristina Deeter, M.D., specialty medical officer for pediatric critical care at Pediatrix® Medical Group, the two most important symptoms that parents often miss are that baby is breathing very fast and is having brief pauses in their breathing. “Any baby that is having trouble breathing or eating should be seen immediately so they can be assessed before things get worse,” said Dr. Deeter.
