Endometrial ablation is a procedure used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding. According to Jill Purdie, M.D., a board-certified OBGYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, most people experience light vaginal bleeding or spotting the first 1–3 days following surgery. Some will then notice an immediate change to their menstrual period, while others will need to wait up to three months for their cycle to adjust. “The first period after the ablation period may be similar in bleeding volume and length as before surgery,” explained Dr. Purdie. “But by the second or third period, these individuals should notice a change.”
