Micropreemie Celebrates Second Holiday Season

NBC DFW

Micropreemie Iann Ledesma was born at 22 weeks weighing just a pound. He spent six months in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, overcoming all odds thanks to a team effort among doctors, hospital staff and his parents. "I always describe to everyone involved in the care of these babies that you know, kind of think of it as a wheel, and the baby is in the middle of that wheel,” said Chanda Simpson, M.D., a neonatologist and associate medical director at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Texas. “We're all spokes, kind of bringing it all together,” said Dr. Simpson. Now a year old, Iann is thriving and the family is excited to celebrate his second holiday season. "What makes me cry the most and smile? It's just seeing Iann play with his little cars, learning new skills and new things," said mom Giselle. "It's just priceless."
