Padsicles, which are essentially frozen maxi pads, can greatly help with recovery post-delivery. “Padsicles can provide soothing relief, pain reduction and comfort, all while being super convenient,” said Amber Chambers, CNM, certified nurse-midwife at Melbourne Maternal-Fetal Medicine, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “The combination of cold and moisture helps to reduce swelling and numb the area, which can help to alleviate pain following delivery, especially if there was a [perineal] repair of any sort." Chambers said many moms find them most helpful during the first few postpartum days, when swelling and soreness are at their peak, and the need then decreases as healing progress. She also cautioned against overuse. “Using padsicles for too long can slow blood circulation, which is important for healing,” advised Chambers. “It’s best to alternate between padsicles and room-temperature pads for balanced recovery.”
