Pregnancy at One Week

Conception has not yet occurred during the initial week of pregnancy, despite the term “week one.” This is the week of the menstrual period, which comes with many symptoms. While menstrual symptoms may not be enjoyable, experiencing them indicates a healthy reproductive system, which can enhance the chances of getting pregnant. Important symptoms, such as irregular bleeding and significant pain experienced during periods, can indicate potential issues that might disrupt fertility. “You might want to consider the length of your cycle,” said Jill Purdie, M.D., an OBGYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “If a person has a period that occurs every two weeks, bleeding that lasts for two weeks or more or is missing periods, these may all be indicators of a problem that may affect conception.”
