Born at just 24 weeks gestation and weighing 11.5 ounces, Presbyterian Hospital’s tiniest baby turned a year in February. It was a long journey in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for baby Jari, who had a 127-day stay in the hospital’s NICU. “Over the course of 127 days, Jari grew from 11.5 ounces to a little more than 5 pounds, and he was finally cleared to go home,” said Jennifer Anderson, M.D., practice medical director and neonatologist at Pediatrix® Medical Group of New Mexico. “It’s kind of amazing that we’re able to get babies from less than a pound and grow them up and send them home to their families. It’s the most rewarding job I can imagine.”
