Parents

Stroller footmuffs provide added warmth and protection against the elements in the winter months. According to Jenelle Ferry, M.D., a board-certified neonatologist at Pediatrix® Neonatology of Florida, young infants have an immature thermoregulatory system, which makes them have trouble keeping themselves warm in the cold and cooling themselves off in the heat. Contributing factors include having different rates of metabolism and less subcutaneous fat than adults. When using a footmuff, it’s important to follow safety precautions, including dressing your infant appropriately. Dr. Ferry cautioned against dressing your baby too warmly underneath to prevent overheating.
