Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition characterized by hormonal imbalances that can affect menstruation and fertility. While prescription medications and birth control pills are often used to treat PCOS, many people also turn to over-the-counter supplements and vitamins to help manage their symptoms. According to Jill Purdie, M.D., a board-certified OBGYN and medical director at Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group, B vitamins help to decrease overall inflammation in the body, which is often associated with PCOS. "Reducing inflammation with B vitamins may help improve fertility in PCOS patients who are trying to conceive," said Dr. Purdie. Vitamin B9 also goes by the names folate and folic acid, which is crucial if you're trying to become pregnant. "It helps support early pregnancy and fetal organ development.”
