Prenatal vitamins provide necessary nutrients to support growing and developing fetuses. Women should start taking them before becoming pregnant and continue throughout their pregnancy. “Although most vitamins and minerals can be obtained through diet, prenatal vitamins help fill the gaps, especially in the first trimester when pregnancy nausea and vomiting may prevent women from eating a variety of foods,” said Jill Purdie, M.D., OB/GYN at Northside Women’s Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia. “Every pregnant person should take a prenatal vitamin. The specific product you choose is less important than making it a part of your daily routine.”
