Some women may experience jelly-like blood clots during their monthly cycle. Typically, the clots are a mix of blood and tissue released from the uterus are usually normal. “During your period, the lining of the uterus sheds,” said Jill Purdie, M.D., OBGYN and practice medical director of Northside Women’s Specialists, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “This causes small blood vessels to break. The body naturally wants to heal by sending cells to the area to slow the bleeding by making it clot, just like when you have a cut. So, some blood clots during your period are normal.”
