Hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin condition in which hard, reddened areas about the size of a pea appear on the body near hair and sweat glands. They can be painful. 

Contributing Factors:

Some contributing factors may include family history, gender, age, oral contraceptives, smoking, stress, heat/humidity, obesity or tight clothing.

Diagnosis and Treatment:

  • Your doctor will conduct a physical examination to determine a diagnosis.
  • Treatment may include improved hygiene, warm compresses, loose-fitting clothes, weight loss, medication and, in extreme cases, surgery.
