Cardiac Intensive Care Medicine

Our highly trained Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) teams provide intermediate and critical care services for children with congenital and acquired cardiac diseases from the newborn period into adulthood twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

PCICU services we provide include:

  • Pre-operative and post-operative care for infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease.
  • Medical intensive care for infants and children with non-surgical cardiovascular diseases.
  • Pre- and post-procedural care for infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease undergoing interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Comprehensive care for children with electrophysiologic heart conditions, including electrophysiology ablation and pacemaker/automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator implantation programs.
  • Collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care, cardiology, and cardiac surgery experts for planning for early intervention of fetuses diagnosed with critical congenital heart disease

We understand that the hospitalization of a child can be stressful for parents, which is why we make it our mission to provide compassionate care for our young patients while offering attentive support to families along the way. We partner with primary care physicians and other members of the health care team throughout each step of the process to help achieve the very best outcomes.
