C. Andrew Combs, M.D., Ph.D., is a seasoned maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist serving as the company’s senior advisor for MFM Clinical Quality for its Center for Research, Education, Quality and Safety.
Dr. Combs practiced as an MFM specialist for more than 30 years. Since 2014, he has led Pediatrix’s continuous quality and safety improvement workgroup for MFM, which develops quality metrics and best practices statements for the company’s national network of MFM practices. Throughout his time in clinical practice, Dr. Combs served in multiple leadership roles. He was associate director and an active clinical investigator with Pediatrix’s MFM consortium, formerly the Obstetrix Collaborative Research Network, which produced or contributed data to more than 20 research publications in obstetrical literature. His work in maternal quality and safety has included a term as chair of the Patient Safety & Quality Committee for the international Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM). During his tenure with SMFM, Dr. Combs co-authored more than 20 publications in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology on quality and safety issues, including quality metrics, safety checklists and topical review articles.
Dr. Combs earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Stanford University in Stanford, California. He attended medical school and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington in Seattle, followed by fellowship training in MFM at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Combs is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and MFM.
