In addition to the changes your breasts undergo during pregnancy, you’ll likely continue to experience more changes post breastfeeding. You may notice that your breasts feel deflated. “Unfortunately, that ‘sagginess’ doesn’t usually improve,” said Suzy Lipinski, M.D., OBGYN and medical director at Obstetrix® of Colorado, part of Pediatrix® Medical Group. “The ligaments in the breast can be stretched out, but they are not elastic. So, once they are stretched, they tend to stay stretched," said Dr. Lipinski. The veins that appeared on your breasts during pregnancy may also start to disappear. A rise in hormones during pregnancy helps your breasts grow and change in preparation for lactation, shared Dr. Lipinski. "The veins are more visible as the breasts are stretched and there is increased flow in the veins.”
