Dr. Kamel is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with specialized training in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery. He diagnoses and treats patients with complex facial deformities, including craniosynostosis, cleft lip and palate, facial fractures, facial nerve paralysis and microtia as well as hand anomalies, vascular malformations and congenital breast conditions. In addition, he provides the latest techniques in aesthetic surgery of the face, breast and body.
As a pediatric plastic surgeon, Dr. Kamel routinely performs complex craniofacial reconstruction on the face, including the lip, palate, nasal reconstruction and cranium resulting from birth defects, cancer treatments, or traumatic injuries and uses cutting edge 3-D technology to help reconstruct and restore normal tissue. As an expert in the treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate malformations, Dr. Kamel leads a multidisciplinary cleft and craniofacial team.
As a craniofacial surgeon, Dr. Kamel provides care for patients with craniosynostosis and has authored papers on minimally invasive techniques using distraction osteogenesis and endoscopic repair techniques. He also offers the latest ear reconstruction techniques for patients with microtia using either autologous tissue or alloplastic reconstruction. In addition, he offers customized ear molding for correction of infant ear deformities in patients as early as one day old.
Dr. Kamel earned his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine and completed his general surgery and plastic surgery training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. He also completed a research fellowship at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital at the Center for Regenerative Medicine where he helped advance the scientific knowledge of facial morphogenesis and in elucidating the genetic mechanisms behind cleft lip and palate. His research was awarded a prestigious grant from the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and he has presented his work at numerous national conferences. Dr. Kamel completed a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery fellowship at University of California San Diego/Rady Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in California.
Dr. Kamel is an advocate of humanitarian work and was awarded the Operation Smile Regan fellowship, which awarded him the opportunity to treat children with cleft lip and palate in Guatemala. He has also served as a volunteer with Connect Med to help treat patients with craniofacial anomalies in Mexico and Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, which provides reconstructive surgery to infants, children and teens with physical deformities.
