Dr. Michael Spiliopoulos is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics specialist practicing in South Florida for the past 5 years. He is one of the few experts in his field that holds American Board of Medical Specialties active certifications in three specialties- Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics.

After earning his medical degree at the University of Athens, Greece, he relocated to Philadelphia, PA where he completed his residency and served as Chief Resident of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple University Hospital. Subsequently, he completed a two-year Fellowship in Medical Genetics at the University of Miami where he had the opportunity to publish a number of landmark articles in his field. He then pursued further training and completed a second fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine/High-Risk pregnancies at Georgetown University/Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Dr. Spiliopoulos has had the opportunity to practice as OBGYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty at Temple University as well as the University of Miami for several years. He now serves as the Prenatal Diagnostic and Ultrasound Center Director at Women’s Specialty Care of Florida where he provides extensive services to patients with high-risk conditions in pregnancy.

Examples of possible indications for referral include:

• Pre-conceptional counseling for patients undergoing IVF
• Abnormalities on fetal ultrasound during pregnancy
• Personal or family history of a birth defect or genetic condition
• Discussion and counseling of abnormal genetic screening tests including cell-free DNA, carrier screening for familial genetic conditions, karyotype/microarray or whole exome/genome sequencing.
• Discussion of prenatal diagnostic options, including performing amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS), Fetal Echocardiograms when indicated
• Screening results indicating an increased chance for a genetic condition or birth defect in the fetus
• Recurrent miscarriages
• Exposures to medications, drugs, or other possibly harmful substances
